Tsakani – Bathabile Nkosi launched her Strong Sisters United initiative at the Baal Perazim Ministries in Kwa–Thema Ext 3 on December 6.
As a rape survivor, Nkosi aimed to unite women from all walks of life in one room to empower, heal and encourage one another.
Nkosi said a local pastor raped and assaulted her several times in Duduza when she was 15.
“A relative introduced me to this particular bishop. We became close when I started worshipping in his church. He was a teacher by profession and got closer to my peers and I through that, helping with school work and Bible study. That is how he managed to take advantage of me sexually, and it pained me,” she said.
“He threatened my safety after the incident, and because he came from a family of law enforcers, judges, lawyers and police, I was afraid to report him.”
In 2018, the bishop was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Springs Magistrate’s Court.Nkosi said that although he is in prison, she still carries scars that will never fade and hurt that will never heal.
“Many women encounter such incidents and never talk about them. Through my initiative, I want to create a safe space for other rape survivors who need support and an ear to listen to them to overcome what they have been through.
“I was only 15 when it happened, but it still feels like yesterday. I think my life would have turned out differently had I not been through such,” she added.
Nkosi said she could not finish matric due to her encounter, saying that although she cannot change her past, she wants to help others move forward. She believes God purposefully put her in this position to later heal other broken hearts.
Her event featured guest speakers, who shared their stories, motivation and advice. Among them was pastor Nomsa Sambo, who encouraged the attendees to always rise above problems.

She reminded women of their power to overcome any situation, to lead and live with purpose, and advised them to remain consistent in prayer.
Another speaker, Boniswa Mgcina, shared Proverbs 3:15, emphasising that women are more precious than material wealth or earthly treasures.
She encouraged the attendees to recognise their value, rise above past experiences and embrace their purpose with confidence.
The atmosphere in the room was a mix of sorrow, encouragement and a strong Godly presence. The gathering created a safe platform for women to vent, share their experiences and participate in a powerful chain prayer.
Nkosi said she will host Strong Sisters United annually to reach and support even more women.
