Kwa-Thema – CPF patrollers in Sector 2 (Ward 77) have received a much-needed boost after receiving reflector jackets at an event held on April 10 at the Kwa-Thema Old Age Home.
The donation marks a significant milestone for the volunteers who have patrolled the area for years without official uniforms.
Sector Two manager, Sergeant Thulani Phogole, says the donation will not only help them become more visible but can also be seen as a token of appreciation.
“These reflector jackets have been sponsored by various local businesses, including Café 69, Kwa-Thema Old Age Home and Plus Butchery,” he said.

He also said the patrollers play a big role in reducing crime in the community.
“When we are doing our weekly stats, we have noticed that the crime is reducing in the area. They love their community, and we appreciate what they are doing because they help us do our work to the best of our abilities,” Phogole said.
Ward Clr Thulane Dunjane shared the same sentiments about the reduced crime, stating that they have received minimal to no complaints in the sector.
Amos Masilela (63) joined the CPF in 2020 when it first started and has witnessed its growth.
“We are happy to receive this uniform. We will fight crime and be more recognisable,” he said.
Masilela said financial constraints remain a challenge for the CPF, as the money they receive each month is not enough to sustain them.
“Patrolling requires you to leave the comfort of your own home and also place yourself in danger,” he said.
Addressing the patrollers, Phogole stressed the importance of abiding by the law at all times.
“We don’t promote vigilantism. Let’s all abide by the law and hold each other accountable,” he emphasised.

“When you witness criminal activity, there is something called a citizen’s arrest. You are allowed to arrest that person and take them to the police station so a case can be opened,” he said.
He further encouraged the CPF to be united in their shared commitment.
“Do not be afraid to take a stand. You have a right to make your community a safe environment,” Phogole concluded.
