Tsakani – EMPD Community Liaison Unit officers, in conjunction with a private security company, conducted a successful intelligence-driven operation on April 17.
The operation led to the arrest of two men for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and dealing in drugs.
Officers followed up on information received regarding suspected criminal activities at a residence on Hluhluwe Street in Langaville.
According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, upon arrival at the identified address, officers introduced themselves and conducted a lawful search at the premises.
“During the search, members recovered a 9mm firearm loaded with seven live rounds of ammunition, which was found hidden under a mattress.

“The suspect produced a firearm licence that expired in July 2021 and failed to provide proof of renewal or safe storage of the firearm.
“Further searching of the premises led to the discovery of four black plastic bags containing dagga with an estimated street value of R5 000, as well as cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales,” explained Dlamini.
The suspects, aged 53 and 27, were arrested and detained at the Tsakane Police Station.
The suspects face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, failure to safely store a firearm, and dealing in dagga.
They are expected to appear before the magistrate’s court soon.
