Tsakani– Nkosinathi Mbonani, owner and founder of Ballers FC and the Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation, believes that township soccer has the potential to produce super stars. Mbonani says soccer plays a vital role in shaping the lives of young people in township communities.
“The sector faces serious challenges, including limited sporting competitions, inadequate facilities, lack of sponsorship and insufficient mentorship programmes.
“Township soccer plays a huge role in many young people’s lives yet we lack a lot of things within the township such as better sporting competitions, sponsorship, sporting facilities and proper mentorship,” he said.
He emphasised that structured support from experienced professionals could make a meaningful difference.
“We would like to receive support from well-established football players and coaches to offer young people skills and empowerment,” he added.

Through Ballers FC and his foundation, Mbonani aims to create opportunities that extend beyond the football pitch. He believes the sport instils discipline, unity and a sense of brotherhood among the youth.
“Soccer has played a huge role in both old and young people and has installed brotherhood within the youth,” he cited.
Mbonani has called on government and private stakeholders to invest more in township football, arguing that it has the power to transform communities and redirect young people towards positive pathways.
“I urge the government to invest in soccer. We need this sector to grow in the township,” he cited.
Mbonani concluded by mentioning that their club recently acquired sponsorship from Stay Fresh Barbershop.
“And for that we are beyond grateful. The helping hand will go a long way,” he concluded.
