Springs Boys’ High School (SBHS) and Olympia Park School announced a no-phone policy at the schools during school hours from February 2.
Springs Boys stated that this step would improve focus in the classroom, discipline, accountability, academic performance and create respectful learning environments.
“We appreciate the support of our parents and guardians as we build a stronger culture of learning at SBHS,” said the school.
Meanwhile, Olympia Park said they understand this is a shift for families, but made this decision with two primary goals in mind: Maximising contact time and protecting the learners.
The school stated that the classroom should be a sanctuary for learning, and by removing cellphones, they eliminate the constant stream of digital distractions – notifications, social media and messaging – that fragment a learner’s attention.

This will ensure that every minute of contact time between teachers and learners is used for concentration and active participation,
Olympia Park noted that the digital world moves fast, and while technology is a tool, it also carries risks that can disrupt a child’s development and mental health.
It emphasised that this policy is a protective barrier against cyberbullying, inappropriate content and social isolation.
“We trust that you, the parents and the legal guardians, share our commitment to providing the best possible environment for our youth.
“In the event of an emergency, parents can contact the school administrative office, and we will ensure your child is immediately reached,” said Olympia Park.
