Tsakani – The clash between the Trap Thursday FC and the Peacock Athletics FC started explosively when both teams stormed the pitch, fired up and determined to dominate.
The intense showdown played out during the Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation Charity Soccer Games on May 24, setting the stage for a thrilling encounter.
The match unfolded like a battle, with each side showcasing bold, tactical plays and fearless defence, refusing to let the other gain the upper hand.
Every pass, tackle and sprint ignited the crowd, setting the tone for an unforgettable showdown.
Peacock Athletics FC striker Tebogo Mokobane acknowledged that the game started slowly in the first half but praised his fellow players for their resilience.
“We started slowly, but then the gents pulled through. The match had questionable officiating, with the coach openly disputing the legitimacy of the opposition’s early goals.
The Trap Thursday FC secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Peacock Athletics.
“The first goal was offside, and the second was a foul. But what can we say? It’s part of the game.”
Despite conceding two early goals, the team rallied back. Tactical substitutions at halftime injected energy and added pressure up front.
“From the first half, they led 2-0. Then, we made substitutions and technical changes to help push the team forward. That allowed us to get two back,” said Mokobane.
He added that the momentum shifted and hope surged as the team drew level, but their comeback was short-lived due to a late defensive lapse.
“Our defender made a schoolboy mistake, which resulted in a winning goal for our opponents. I think the fatigue showed.
“As a team, we are not match-fit, probably because of December puddings. Despite the defeat, there was no shortage of pride in the post-match reflections.

“Overall, we are pleased with how the game turned out. From being 2-0 down to almost turning it around, we showed character. We showed fighting spirit.”
The game ended with a final score of 3-2, a win for the Trap Thursday FC. Team coach Siphiwe Mabena said he had had a solid squad throughout the game.
“We used our opportunities, scored two beautiful goals in the first half, and broke the game.
“In the second half, the players were a bit flat, so we substituted front players in the third quarter, adding pace to the game. We pushed hard enough to score our third goal, which resulted in a win for us.”
He added that his team was motivated and that the win was crucial to move to the tournament’s second round.
“The win served as motivation. We got what we wanted,” he concluded.
