The benefits of enrolling children in after-school programmes

Duduza – Lala’s Aftercare Learning Lounge Pty (LTD) was established in February 2022 with the goal of supporting working parents and those living with grandparents.
This ensures that children enjoy a safe, engaging, and productive space after school hours. The programme is located at Mary Jane crèche in Masechaba, Duduza.
It caters for a maximum of 60 children, with two assistants for more personalised attention and quality care. The aftercare programmes cater for learners in grades one until 10 and offer assistance with homework, spelling and comprehension, exam preparations and project assistance.
“Our program runs from 15:00 to 17:30, ensuring children have enough time for learning, relaxation, and recreation after school.
“We help improve reading in Afrikaans, English and Isizulu. We also focus on the needs that parents request such as a child struggling with maths or reading.
“We also offer counselling sessions from time to time just to check where the children are mentally,” said the owner and founder of the programme Lalla Sekabate.
Lalla shared the importance of aftercare programmes stating that they contribute positively to the learners’ learning journey.

The relationships they form between teachers and other children aid by focusing on positive personality traits. They will learn lessons like open-mindedness and how to respect others. It’s always a win when children can meet new people and learn how to engage with them; they may even make new friends.
• Enhances leadership abilities. Children participating in the aftercare programs is part of the development of leadership abilities. Children improve their communication skills by learning to be expressive and respectful to their peers in the after-school program.
Conflict management is not only a useful ability; working in groups encourages learners to speak up when required and to listen to what their classmates have to say. Teamwork fosters friendships and bonds, allowing your youngster to form meaningful bonds.
Sekabate’s partner Sthembele Tsotetsi said after-school programmes were designed to stand out due to the dedicated staff, tailored learning approaches, and emphasis on holistic child development.
“These programmes foster a warm, family-like atmosphere while integrating fun with learning. The unique blend of academic support, creative expression, and character-building activities ensures children leave happier, more confident, and well-prepared for future challenges,” said Tsotetsi.
