Kwa-Thema – The Springs Home Sweepers and Future Stars ladies teams played their Sasol League game on April 12 at the Kwa-Thema Stadium.
The captivating match kept spectators on their feet hoping for a win from their favourite team.
The pitch turned into a battleground as each team tried to score winning goals. Future Stars ladies broke the ice and scored their first goal within the first half of the game.
“The game was tight, as I had predicted, but the game played out pretty well. I am happy with how we played.
“We were supposed to win the game within the first half as we were dominating. We did not utilise the opportunities that we had wisely.
“I blame my bad substitution in the second half. I made mistakes through substitutions. We lost concentration in the second half of the game.
“My aim is to help my team make better decisions going forward, help them understand the importance of concentration during games and combat poor decision making,” explained their coach, Gift Khoza.
Khoza cited that he is slightly disappointed that they did not fully take advantage of all the opportunities they had in the first half to win the game.
The game concluded with a tight draw of 2-2. Neither team was willing to lose to the other which is what made the thrilling game tough. Springs Home Sweepers team manager Nelisiwe Motsoagae said the game started at a slow pace.
“Our players were not at their A game but we played the first half very well. It is a pity that we considered scoring goals in the 20th minute of the game.

“We came with a different approach in the second half which helped us equalise with our opponent. We promoted three of our key players to the Hollywood Bets Super League and are trying to build a new team from the team we currently have.
“This team comprises players from as young as 13 so we are still looking at players within different positions,” explained Motsoagae.
Motsoagae mentioned that she was impressed with how her team played, citing that she is impressed with how her team kept their fighting spirit. She urged women from Kwatsaduza to join their team as they are looking for more players.
“We are looking for young ladies who are interested in soccer to come and join our team. We are more than willing to groom individuals who are passionate about soccer.
“They can gladly come for an assessment or training at Phulong Secondary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 16:00,” she added.
