Reedville – Arise and Shine Sifazane marked Men’s Health Month by celebrating men in their community and donating a wheelchair to local baker Jabu Malinga.
Founded in 2022 by Sbongile Zwane, the organisation empowers women and speaks out against GBV. This time, it turned the spotlight on men, with a focus on healthier emotional expression.
“We know men can be victims of domestic violence. We are also aware that, in many cases, men become violent due to bottled-up anger,” said Zwane.
“We are also aware that, in many cases, men become violent due to bottled-up anger.”
Malinga, who lives with a physical disability, was the main beneficiary of the day. He shared how isolating his condition can be and expressed appreciation for the donation.
He encouraged the community to include people living with disabilities and consider their needs, and said living with physical disabilities can lead one to feel isolated and rejected.
Malinga, a trained baker, was grateful for his new wheelchair because his old one was worn out. He offered to teach his baking skills to women in the area, but said funding is needed to support the project.
