Kwa-Thema – Good Girls Gone Boss recently held a makeup masterclass and said more is to come. The NPO was established in 2022 with one aim: to increase the number of women interested in creative careers.
“Let’s be honest, we have been misinformed in the townships. We were made to believe that taking on a creative career would lead to nothing and you would be a starving artist, which is false,” said Mfeka.
Mfeka said she is a living testimony of how well things can work out. With a background in photography, she said she had been relatively successful and had had many travel opportunities.
“I have worked with big brands on campaigns. Creativity can be rewarding and fulfilling while producing an income,” she said.
The organisation hosts monthly workshops to empower women in makeup, photography, digital marketing and creative recycling.

“We don’t run the workshops ourselves but bring in real professionals. We want our classes to be exciting, practical and relevant,” she cited.
Mfeka said that although they initially created classes for women, the LGBTQI+ community was also welcome.
“We want to create a space that feels safe, fun and empowering for everyone. Our core mission is to build a sense of community through sisterhood. We know that as women, we understand each other because we share the same challenges.
That connects us, and that connection is a foundation for growth.
“We want our participants to leave with not only a new skill but the confidence to use what they have learnt to better their lives,” she explained.
All the masterclasses in Kwa-Thema will be held at the Kwa-Thema Customer Care Centre, and all programmes are free of charge. Visit the NPO’s website for information about the next class: www.goodgirlgoneboss.co.za/about/
