Northwood High School advances to basketball finals, knocking out St John’s



It’s day4 Day 4, the day that will determine the 2026 St John’s College basketball tournament winner.
Last night, Northwood High School’s U19 basketball team thrashed St John’s College’s U19 basketball team 54-45 on February 21, knocking the hosts out of the tournament.

The highly anticipated game, watched by a sold-out audience of friends and family, had to be moved and played at 19:00 due to two lightning warning signals issued, as well as the rain, which left the courts soaking wet.

Coaching staff had to sweep the water off the courts, helped by the gardening team and their blowing vacuum machines, to prevent players from slipping on the court.
What started as a game that looked like it could be won by the hosts quickly changed when Northwood caught up.

Northwood’s basketball captain Awande Chiliza admitted that it was a tough game. “My team fought, and it’s evident in the score. The support we received also contributed to our win.”

The St John’s College U19 basketball team was visibly disappointed and declined to comment on their performance.
Some day 3 games were moved to today due to the rain and wet courts.
Games that were postponed to February 22 due to the rain were St John’s College vs Kearsney College and St John’s College vs King Edward VII. Games that are scheduled to be played on February 22 include Pretoria Boys vs St Charles College, St David’s Inanda vs St Albans College, and St Benedict’s vs King Edwards VII, as well as the U19 final ranking games.
