Nomdayi Festive Games continue to uplift talent, support local businesses, create opportunities



Kwa-Thema – Amavikela Mbuso won the Nomdayi Festive Games, which concluded on December 30, following days of competitive football.Hosted by the Nomdayi community, the annual tournament has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated festive sporting events, providing a vital platform for local talent to be identified and developed.The competition opened doors for players to advance to regional and provincial structures, including the Patrice Motsepe League and the PSL.

Some 32 soccer teams competed at the Ntokozweni Ground and Kwa-Thema Stadium for the R250 000 cash prize, with the second team wining R100 000 cash prize, while the two runners-up each received R25 000.Players were also rewarded for standout performances.On the netball front, the Seven Stars Netball Club from Soweto took home the R20 000 cash prize.The netball tournament started on December 28, with organisers emphasising the event’s contribution to the local economy, as business stalls are set up at the sports facilities during the games.

Because of its long-standing partnership with the Local Football Association (LFA), the organisation did not leave the young ones out.The Early Birds won the trophy in the U11 category, while Sanders United stepped up for both the U15s and U17s. Ace Auto Ayoba made their mark in the U13 group.
