Johan Meyer, Middelburg Primary School’s deputy head coach, said he was proud of his team for winning 24–12, especially because it was their first game playing with boots. “The team was quite enthusiastic today, because the league that they play in Mpumalanga is played barefoot. Today was their first time playing with boots in their whole life. It was quite an experience for them.”

Meyer added that the forwards need to do the main job, retaining the ball and giving it cleanly to the backline, so that they can play from depth. “Rugby is a game of time and space. We’ve got more choices and time and space to make our decisions. I think, in terms of our backline, we’re going to work with them to stand a little bit deeper.”
