Michael Zulu Primary School celebrates World Book Day in style

Tsakani – The Michael Zulu Primary School observed World Book Day and let children broaden their literature skills on April 23.
The day, organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, promotes a diverse culture of avid readers, reading, publishing and copyrighting. It also encourages children and families to enjoy reading because it is pleasurable and can change lives.
“We are promoting a generation of readers and inquisitive children who find joy in reading.
“As a school, we make sure to highlight the importance of this day to our learners, unpack the benefits of a reading mind and make learning an adventure. We also practically explore some of the things we read about.

Teachers read to the children.

“Reading benefits an individual with knowledge and allows them to unleash their creative side,” said Michael Zulu teacher Nhlanhla Songo.
The children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters and shared their favourite book(s).
“Other learners created a big book and presented it to fellow learners, making learning and reading a fun activity,” added teacher and librarian Fikile Mabuza.
The school had events featuring performances and activities, and learners presented information from their favourite books.
