Meet the Tsakani amapiano duo blazing their way to the top

Tsakani – Tshegofatso ‘Mfana Ka Zyfas’ Maila and Ditebogo ‘Klein Boykie’ Papi are a rising duo with a passion for music. They have known each other for a decade and share a passion for music that sparked at an early age.
“The love for our craft inspired us to create our unique sound, having explored various genres such as hip-hop and umbhoqo.
“We also gained invaluable knowledge and experience, ultimately leading us to collaborate with fellow artists and find our footing in the amapiano genre,” explained Tshegofatso.
The duo specialises in amapiano, which has become a significant part of their creative identity. Their artistic style extends beyond music to encompass events. Their biggest artistic influence is the duo Amaroto.
“Their work inspired us to choose the genre we do. We drew inspiration from their creativity and the desire to tell stories and share experiences through music. Our creative process typically begins with brainstorming and experimenting with sounds and beats.

“We then work on crafting our lyrics and melodies, often drawing from personal experiences and emotions. Throughout the process, we strive to stay true to our artistic vision while continuously pushing ourselves to innovate and grow,” explained Tshegofatso.

“As artists, we are largely self-taught, with no formal training or education in art. While we have participated in many exhibitions, shows and performances – too many to list.
“Although we have not received any formal awards or recognition, we collaborated with various notable artists – Leo Deep, Six40, M00tion, Ez maestro, Scotts Khayero, Senzo02 and TkSmall, among others.”
Their most notable artistic achievements include organising the Signing Out Jordan event. On December 1, 2023, they released a song called Petrol Yam’Nukela. It is on all digital platforms.
The duo continues to grow and evolve. Their short-term goals include releasing new singles or an album in the next three to six months.

They want to perform at big events, build a strong online presence through social media, and collaborate with other producers.
They aim to embark on a world tour and win prestigious awards, such as a South African Music award or an MTV Video Music award.
“Our ideal artistic project or collaboration would involve experimenting with new sounds and genres, working with a team that shares our passion and work ethic. We want to project a strong message to the audience. Over the next few years, we envision our art evolving to top the charts and earn us prestigious awards,” he added.
Through their art, they aim to convey themes of hope, resilience and self-empowerment, inspiring audiences to stay motivated and focused on their goals.
Tshegofatso and Ditebogo are working on a single titled Qubula alongside Six40 and Mshengu. The song should drop in September, unloading endless entertainment.
