Zerelda Albrecht writes:I write this letter not only for myself, but for many who live in silence in a world that rarely pauses to understand them.
Being deaf is not a limitation of intelligence, ability or ambition. It is simply a different way of experiencing life.
Yet, despite this, many deaf individuals are often overlooked, underestimated or excluded, especially when it comes to opportunities to work and prove themselves.
Work is more than just earning a living. It is dignity. It is a purpose. It is the chance to grow, to contribute and to feel valued in society. Like anyone else, deaf individuals want to be part of something meaningful.
We want to use our skills, our talents and our determination to make a difference. However, what we often face is not a lack of ability, but a lack of opportunity. We need a chance.
A chance to show that communication barriers can be overcome, prove that dedication speaks louder than words and demonstrate that inclusion benefits not only individuals, but entire workplaces and communities.

It is also important to address a common misconception: deaf individuals are not a safety hazard. With proper awareness, communication methods and inclusive practices, deaf employees perform their duties safely and effectively, just like anyone else.
In many cases, heightened visual awareness and attention to surroundings can even be an advantage.
Sometimes, all it takes is understanding, patience, and a willingness to adapt, whether through basic accommodations, openness to alternative communication, or simply seeing the person beyond the disability.
I am not asking for sympathy. I am asking for fairness. I am asking for the opportunity to stand on equal ground and to prove my worth, not despite being deaf, but as a capable individual who has learned resilience, adaptability and strength through it.
Please consider opening doors that have long been closed and giving someone like me a chance.
Because when given the opportunity, we do not just meet expectations, we often exceed them.
