Kwa-Thema’s Laban Motlhabi High to launch engineering school of specialisation

Kwa-Thema – Laban Motlhabi Comprehensive High School is a public high school well known for its consistent academic and extracurricular achievements in recent years.
The school offers a wide academic programme which includes technical subjects such as trades, Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD), technical mathematics and technical science, alongside traditional subjects in science (pure mathematics and physical sciences), commerce (economics, accounting and business studies), and humanities (history, tourism and geography).
This broad subject offering is the reason the school carries the term “comprehensive” in its name. This year the school will embark on an exciting transformation, transitioning from a comprehensive high school into an Engineering School of Specialisation (SOS).
“As a school, we will then be known as Laban Motlhabi Engineering School of Specialisation, with a strong focus on manufacturing, transportation and logistics. This change means that our learners will be mainly exposed to specialised subjects such as mechanical technology, civil technology and electrical technology, supported by a strong foundation in mathematics and physical sciences, while still retaining selected offerings within the humanities,” explained Thala Twala, the school’s communications officer.
Twala said this important milestone will be officially marked by a launch event on May 28. The event will be attended by various stakeholders including the MMC for Education, the director of the Gauteng Department of Education’s Gauteng East District, local councillors and members of the broader community.
“On this day, learners will also have the opportunity to showcase various projects they have been working on in their respective technical fields and trades. Various sponsors have already been approached to assist in making this event a success. Additional sponsors are still welcome and encouraged to support this important initiative,” she added.
