Kwa-Thema – A group of local creatives has joined forces to create a platform aimed at giving township talent the exposure it deserves.
Khumbulani Weyi, Christopher Monukwa, Ndumiso Hlakuva and Njabulo Polo form the foundation of Vegas Entertainment, a collective driven by passion and a shared musical vision.
“There is a web of musical connection between us, and we have always been creating music. We came together with no formal plan, just passion,” said Hlakuva, affectionately known as Deckster.
Founded in 2016, the group has steadily built a name for itself while nurturing local talent.
“There is so much talent in Kwa-Thema. We don’t want our people to feel they must travel far to be heard. We may not have all the facilities yet, but we can definitely help other artists move forward,” Hlakuva added.
Despite challenges, the collective has cultivated a loyal following.
Vegas Entertainment members Khumbulani Weyi, Christopher Monukwa, Ndumiso “Deckster” Hlakuva and Njabulo Polo are on a mission to uplift and showcase homegrown talent in Kwa-Thema.
“It hasn’t been easy, but we’ve built a community that looks forward to new music from us. We have to keep delivering,” he said.
Vegas Entertainment has collaborated with Esjandeni Entertainment and House of Cultured on several projects, expanding its footprint in the local creative space.
“We want to inspire the children growing up around us. We want to be positive role models,” said Weyi.
Monukwa said their journey proves that persistence pays off.
“Dreams don’t die. You have to start somewhere. You can’t expect to be discovered if you’re doing nothing. We are moving, and we are gaining momentum.”
The group will celebrate Deckster’s birthday by hosting what they describe as the “mother of all parties” at Masehla’s Lifestyle in Ext 2 on February 28.
