Kwa-Thema – Senzokuhle Gwala (30) is a vibrant MC making waves in the entertainment scene.
He highlighted that his journey began with the goal of becoming a household name, inspired by figures like Oprah Winfrey and Steve Harvey.
However, after facing numerous unsuccessful TV auditions, Gwala naturally discovered MCing through his love for speaking and engaging with people.
Over time, he found himself drawn to spaces where he could lead conversations and bring life into a room, which ultimately led him to pursue MCing more seriously.
His journey as an MC began 10 years ago, but he has recently gained momentum.
“What I do goes beyond just speaking on a microphone. I create energy, guide the flow of events, and connect people.
“As an MC, I help bring structure while ensuring that the audience feels engaged, present, and part of the experience,” he said.
“And another part of my work is around consulting and working deeply hand-in-hand with event service providers for a better flow of the execution of the event.”
His hunger for the entertainment industry has kept him going through all obstacles. Since childhood, Gwala knew that he wanted to be an entertainer.
“Seeing how energy, confidence, and authenticity can influence a room made me realise that this is what I wanted to pursue intentionally.
“I began to see the opportunities it could create and how it could open doors. After posting a Red Carpet audition on social media, it went viral and led to back-to-back bookings.
“At the time, I was not fully invested in MCing, as I was still focused on becoming a TV presenter.
“However, when I started offering my services at a minimal cost, clients created space for my work to grow and not only financially, but also in terms of personal development and impact,” he explained.

Beyond entertainment, Gwala’s work carries a deeper impact. By naturally incorporating motivation into his hosting, he has witnessed how the right words at the right moment can uplift and inspire people.
With confidence, consistency, networking, and a willingness to learn, Gwala believes anyone can begin the journey.
He emphasised that emotional intelligence, patience, and adaptability are what truly set professionals apart in the field. His journey has opened doors to opportunities across South Africa and beyond.
“I have hosted events in Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape, with upcoming work in Durban, and have also worked with international clients, including couples from London who chose South Africa as their wedding destination and specifically requested my services.
“One of my most significant milestones has been building a long-term relationship with African Bank, where I hosted multiple internal events between 2024 and 2025,” he said.
“This experience allowed me to share platforms with well-known names such as Joyous Celebration, Kabelo Mabalane, Kuhle Adams, and Khosi Nkosi.”
Despite his growth, the journey has not been without challenges. Gwala cited that each experience has contributed to his growth, both personally and professionally.
Driven by a desire to give back, Gwala actively shares his knowledge and experiences with aspiring MCs.
Through his digital masterclass, Mic Check 1 2 1 2, he provides practical insights and guidance, helping others find their voice and build their own paths within the industry.
Looking ahead, he envisions himself as a widely recognised MC and media personality, expanding into digital platforms while continuing to inspire and create opportunities for others.
“My message is rooted in resilience and action. To aspiring MCs, allow yourself to fail, but focus on how you rise each time.
“My own journey through television auditions, radio, online platforms, and podcasts ultimately led me to discover my true space, which is behind the microphone, in front of an audience,” added Gwala.
