Kwa-Thema – Four men have been arrested and charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and possession of house break-in implements.
On Friday, at about 01:00, Kwa-Thema SAPS members were out on patrol when they noticed a white Hyundai Elantra driving along Joe Mzamane Street headed in the opposite direction to the police vehicle.
The team then decided to investigate and followed the car.
As the officers followed, the car started driving in a manner which led them to believe that the driver was trying to evade detection.
The team managed to stop the car and in it were four male occupants who were searched. The car was also searched.

Inside the car, a 9mm Tuares, with the serial number filed off, and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition were found. There was also a bag of tools consisting of crowbars and another cutting tool which are suspected to be used in breaking into buildings and homes.
The four suspects were all arrested and charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and the possession of house break-in implements.
They will appear in front of the local magistrate.
Kwa-Thema SAPS station commander Colonel Nhlanhla Kunene applauded the work conducted by the team.
“Another firearm has been taken off of the streets and will be forwarded to ballistics to link it to any other crimes,” he said.
