FOLLOW UP: Gauteng Education MEC mourns drowning of two boys in Duduza

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane extended his condolences to the families of Molefe Kgasi (11) and Samukelo France (10), whose bodies were found in a pond near a construction site in John Dube, near the Mega City Flats, on June 20.
Both were Grade Five pupils at Dan Radebe Primary School. The two pupils, close friends in the same class, are believed to have drowned after their bodies were found in a pond last Friday.
According to the community, the large, rain-filled pit -unsecured and unmarked – has become a dangerous attraction for children who swim there.
“The SAPS is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Gauteng Department of Education’s psycho-social support unit has been sent to Dan Radebe Primary to provide trauma counselling and support to affected pupils, educators and families,” said Chiloane.
“This is a heartbreaking incident. Losing young lives in this way is devastating, not only for the families but for the school community and the province as a whole. We extend our condolences to the parents, teachers, classmates and friends of these pupils.”
