The CoE has encouraged residents unable to afford basic municipal services like water, sanitation, refuse removal and electricity to register for its Indigent Relief Programme.
Successful applicants could qualify for rebates and other support.
Households with a combined monthly income of less than two minimum wages as defined by the domestic worker wage threshold are eligible to apply.
Applications can be submitted at the nearest customer care centre (CCC).
To benefit from this programme, individuals must be officially registered with the city as indigent and meet the qualifying criteria.
Applicants must:• reside within the City of Ekurhuleni;• be 18 or older (includes financially dependent minors of the applicant);• be an SA citizen or hold a valid permanent residence certificate;• have a combined monthly household income below R8 134.40 (or as updated by the Minister of Employment and Labour from time to time).
How to apply:• Visit the indigent office at your nearest CCC with these documents:• A copy of the applicant’s ID and that of their spouse (if applicable);• ID or birth certificates for all dependants residing at the property;• The most recent municipal account statement;• Proof of income: This can include a Sassa pension statement for pensioners, three months’ bank statements or letters of employment for employed applicants. If unemployed, an affidavit must be provided. Full-time students must provide proof of registration.
The city encourages qualifying residents to apply now to ensure access to essential services and financial relief.
