
Duduza – Lehlohonolo Molefe (31), popularly known as Hloni Molefe or ‘Mhlonich’, is a gospel singer from Duduza who is making waves with his uplifting music.His journey in the music scene started in the church, as he grew up serving on worship teams from a young age.“That environment shaped both my musical foundation and my calling.“I make gospel and contemporary worship music, with a heartfelt, worship-leader style rooted in testimony and spiritual depth.“My inspiration comes from my faith as a born-again Christian, my life experiences, the worship leaders I grew up listening to, and the stories of people around me,” he explained.“I write from a place of honesty, healing, and the desire to help others encounter God through music.”

Lehlohonolo cited that his motivation is deeply spiritual, saying he feels called to use his voice to worship, testify, and uplift people.He said seeing how music can shift an atmosphere, bringing healing, hope, and restoration, pushed him forward.“I also want to build a legacy of worship and open doors for other young artists in my community.“I started singing in church from a very young age and was also part of a clap-and-tap choir. Those early years shaped the artist I am today,” he added.He has been a part of the Big Band from the Music Academy of Gauteng, and during his time at Birchwood Hotel, he had the privilege to share stages with well-known South African artists such as the late Tshepo Tshola, Ringo Madlingozi, Mafikizolo, and Lady Zamar.In gospel, Lehlohonolo has also shared the stage with and backed artists like Xoli Mncwango, Takie Ndou, Lebo Sekgobela, Tumelo Moloi, and others.

He recently released his single Modimo, which is available on all digital platforms.“I have recorded other songs and have been featured on a friend’s album.“A major highlight was being selected as the face of Ihubo in 2024.“I am currently working on releasing more of my own music. I am also a songwriter, so expect more original work,” he said.“My vision is to be a worship leader and gospel artist who ushers people into real encounters with God and elevates testimonies from my community onto national platforms.“The goal is to consistently release excellent gospel music, build a sustainable ministry that uplifts the community, collaborate with established gospel artists, and host worship events that create opportunities for upcoming artists.”Lehlohonolo said music has shaped his identity and taught him discipline and humility.“It has helped me build confidence, especially in public speaking and leading people in worship. It has strengthened my faith, developed my leadership and organisational skills, and opened doors for collaboration and community recognition.“Balancing work, studies, and music has not been easy, but it has built perseverance and character.”
