Duduza resident takes initiative to clean Mega City Flats alone

DUDUZA – In a selfless act of community pride, Thulane Dhlamini from Masechaba recently rolled up his sleeves to clean Mega City Flats, despite not being a resident of the area.
“I was motivated by the state of the area, as it was becoming untidy with long grass and waste. I decided to take action and clean the area myself instead of complaining about its condition. I had to make sure the area is clean, healthy, and in good condition for those who live there, especially the children,” explained Dhlamini.
He said the area had been neglected, adding that he started the clean-up alone but was later joined by others.
“I started the work on my own because I wanted to make a difference since I am currently unemployed. One of the main challenges was the long grass and the amount of work needed to clear the area. Commitment is what drove me to finish the job,” he added.

He said residents of the area were encouraged to work hard and were quite happy with his effort. Many also mentioned that they could see the difference he had made.
“A clean environment makes people feel better about where they live.
It is important to live in a clean and well-maintained environment because we all share this community. If we take responsibility for our surroundings, we can create a cleaner, safer, and more positive environment for everyone,” he said.
Dhlamini believes that cleanliness plays a significant role in community safety.
“When an area is clean and well maintained, it shows that people care about the community. It can discourage criminal activity and make the area safer,” he said.

He encouraged residents to take collective responsibility for their surroundings. His message is that residents should all work together to keep their environment clean.
“Even small actions can make a big difference in improving our community,” he added.
He also expressed his willingness to continue with the initiative.

“I would like to continue helping to keep the area clean and possibly expand the work to other places if the opportunity comes,” he concluded.
