Duduza entrepreneur appeals for support after tragedy ends baking business

Entrepreneur and Duduza resident Thabo Seepe’s love for baking began long before it became a source of income.
His passion, dedication, creativity and desire to uplift others grew into a cake-baking and ice-cream sales business in 2023.
Along his journey, Seepe found a business partner with the same passion for baking, and they began operating in Duduza, Bluegum View.
“We turned our skills into a thriving small enterprise that served the community in many ways. We supplied cakes for various occasions, including birthdays and funerals, and for several parlours during times of mourning,” he said.

“Beyond production, we created employment for many young people who sold cakes on street corners and helped collect cake buckets for special events.”

Seepe’s business partner’s death was a turning point for the business and his emotional well-being.
“After losing my partner, the business collapsed, forcing me to relocate and, eventually, lose all the resources we had worked so hard to build. The loss was more than financial. I lost the strength to carry on,” he said.
Seepe struggled to rebuild himself while grieving a business partner and a shared dream. Recently, a broken leg compounded his challenges, making movement and daily activities difficult and delaying efforts to regain stability.
However, did not take away his determination.
“I remain resolute. I am focused on rebuilding my confidence and starting a baking venture from the ground up.

“With my experience from my previous business, I believe I have the potential to succeed again, if given the necessary support,” he added.
Seepe is appealing for sponsorship, baking equipment, including stoves, baking pans and other essentials that would help him start over.
Such support would restore his livelihood and revive an initiative that once played a meaningful role in community upliftment and job creation.
His story is one of resilience, loss and hope, a reminder that behind every small business is a human carrying dreams, pain and the courage to try again.
