Today (April 19) marks Day 2 of the King Edward VII School (KES) Easter Festival.
After Thursday’s (April 17) thrilling opening hockey clashes, the festival returns in full force, with rugby officially kicking off and hockey action continuing from early morning into the evening.
Light rain is expected throughout the day, but you best believe that will not dampen the spirit for sport.

Thursday’s opening hockey fixtures set the tone for what’s already shaping up to be a memorable weekend. Parktown Boys kicked off with a 3–1 win over St Charles College, showing discipline and intensity. Maritzburg College followed up with a clinical 4–1 victory over Helpmekaar Kollege, dominating from start to finish. But the standout performance came from the hosts themselves–KES lit up the Weinberg Astro with a storming 6–2 win over Glenwood High, feeding off the energy of a packed home crowd and sending a clear message that they’re here to compete.
Now, as today’s (April 19) fixtures get underway, the focus expands with rugby joining the fray. 12 schools take the field in what promises to be a thrilling series of contests.
The main attraction is the 15:15 clash between KES and Rondebosch Boys’ High School, a critical moment for the hosts as they aim to bounce back from four consecutive defeats. With the Red Army in full voice and home advantage on their side, KES is fired up to turn things around.
Earlier in the day, Hoërskool Noordheuwel—ranked 21st in the country—takes on the ever-formidable Affies at 12:45 in a fixture that promises fireworks. Known as The Blues, Noordheuwel arrives with confidence and talent to match, making this one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the festival.
