NIGEL – Cambridge Football Club’s reserve team delivered a thrilling weekend of football in the MacKenzieville, Alra Park Football Association (MAFA) League.
The action kicked off on June 14 against Umnyovu FC at the McKenzieville Stadium, where both teams shared the spoils in a high-energy 3–3 draw.
The Bridges (Cambridge reserves) dominated early, going 2-0 up before halftime. However, a lapse in concentration allowed Umnyovu to claw back with two goals, levelling the score.
With five minutes remaining, Umnyovu took the lead through a penalty, but the Bridges responded swiftly with a late equaliser.

On June 15, the Bridges returned to the field to host the Shamrocks FC and delivered a dominant second-half performance, securing a decisive 5-0 victory.
The first half ended goalless, but whatever was said in the locker room sparked a transformation. Cambridge came out firing, netting five goals and leaving the Shamrocks struggling to contain the onslaught.
“The win puts us in a good position and keeps the pressure on the top five teams. We should have taken the win on Saturday, too, but a lack of focus cost us,” said Kamohelo Siyabonga Motloung (Cambridge reserve coach).
Club chairperson Ignatius Maphike added, “We’re building for the future with these talented boys. We encourage the community to support the team and follow us on social media.”
Meanwhile, an update on the status of Cambridge’s first football team is expected soon. A South African Football Association Ekurhuleni hearing will determine their fate.
