Kwa-Thema – Arise and Shine NPO invites Kwatsaduza residents to join its free sewing classes, open to all genders and ages.
The classes will start on February 16 and run from Monday to Wednesday, from 08:00 to 13:00, while advanced sewing classes will take place from Thursday to Friday.
Founder Mapule Mashifane said they are trying to combat unemployment through the provision of sewing skills.
“We are committed to teaching people all the skills they need to sew – whether it is repairing torn clothing or designing and creating garments from scratch.
“Offering sewing lessons will benefit those who want to acquire new skills, start their own businesses, or explore alternative career paths. We are dedicating our time to skills transfer to help in alleviating poverty,” she said.
She also mentioned that their initiative needs assistance through donations or sponsorship.

“We need sewing materials such as needles, threads, fabric, and machines. Small donations from the public would contribute to this initiative,” she added.
Last year, the NPO donated 40 school shirts to Sakhelwe and Masimini primary schools. Twenty learners from each school received a shirt.
The organisation’s members and students hand-crafted the shirts as a way of giving back to the community.
“With more students and donations, we aim to lend a helping hand to those in need,” she said.
Community members can register for the classes at the Kwa-Thema Skills Centre. Alternatively, they can enquire with Mashifane on 073 061 5464 or through email at [email protected]
