Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Main Clinic is inviting community members to attend the launch of its Adolescent Youth-Friendly Services (AYFS) on July 4.
This initiative aims to provide accessible and supportive healthcare for young people, ensuring they receive the services they need in a safe and welcoming environment.
“We are trying to encourage young people to come to the clinic. Many are afraid to visit for health screenings, pregnancy prevention or termination,” said Sifiso Ntshangase, the clinic’s health promotion practitioner.
“Some just want to collect condoms but stay away due to fear or stigma. We want to break the stereotypes surrounding schoolchildren and youth accessing clinic services.”
The AYFS will include a dedicated social worker and nurse, available specifically to assist school learners during after-school hours.
“There will be a window period reserved for young people, with a separate queue. They won’t be expected to wait in the general line unless other young people are already waiting. Services will be tailored to meet their specific health needs,” Ntshangase explained.

A youth-focused launchOn the day of the launch, attendees will benefit from health information and services provided by the clinic, Soul City Institute, Department of Social Services, and SANCA.
Entertainment and refreshments will be provided to help create a comfortable and engaging atmosphere. Young people are encouraged to participate, share their concerns, and seek professional health advice.
The event will kick off with a 30-minute fun walk around Tlakula Secondary School, followed by aerobics and the main programme.
“Integrating the youth in all our activities is important. Many only visit the clinic when they’re already seriously ill or vulnerable.Schools often request our help with health-related interventions, and we see the challenges they face,” said Ntshangase.
“Wewant young people to know the clinic also offers dental care and a wide range of services. We are here and ready to support them in every way possible.”
