Another year has passed in a whirlwind, and the ESDA Nursing Education Institution brings it to an end at its graduation.
The principal of the institution, Yolanda Els, gave a speech highlighting her pride in the Class of 2024 and her well wishes for them.
“What an honour to share this momentous occasion with you, a celebration of dedication, perseverance and the culmination of your hard work.
“Nursing is not merely a profession. Nursing is a calling that demands compassion, skill and commitment to the well-being of those we serve.”
She said the institution’s vision is to develop quality nurses for the health profession and have them reach their full potential, spiritually and personally, and to reflect the Lord’s character through all their activities. Else thanked everyone involved in training the 30 students.
“Management, ward staff and all health workers at the Gauteng Department of Health, the Heidelberg Provincial Hospital, the Ekurhuleni community centres and the Rus ‘n Bietjie Home for the Elderly.
“Thank you for accommodating our learners and for your involvement in training these graduates.
Masha Shalang: Top student in theory, practical and overall.
“Thank you also to our other clinical facilities, Epilepsy SA, the Springs Retirement Village and the Frank Mynhardt Centre, where our caregivers do their clinical practice.”
She also thanked her academic staff, “What a team. Thank you for your hard work and dedication this past year. Kinna Erasmus, Marise Janse van Vuuren, Sophie Mabusela and Riekie Wentzel. You did a wonderful job.
“Maria Khuboni, our external moderator, who ensures we maintain our high standard of education. Our support staff is vital to the smooth running of the school.
“Erna Horgan, our registrar and secretary; Michelle de Villiers, our IT and e-learning specialist; and Ellen Mabete, our domestic worker.”
She also welcomed a new member of the team, Furane Dimati, who does the clinical accompaniment at the Heidelberg Hospital.
“It is a privilege for me to work with this amazing team to make our school the best it can be.”
Else congratulated the graduates, “You achieved a milestone in your life. It was not always easy. There were long nights with no electricity, anxious moments, riots, and many tears and laughter, but you learnt to keep going, no matter what. You have made yourself, our school and your family proud today.”
She spoke about the group’s achievements, “Since we started the higher certificate in 2021, we had a pass rate of 100%, and these 30 students followed in their footsteps. Three learners attained distinctions in theory and 19 in clinical practice.
“Congratulations to you all. I hope success keeps following you in everything that you do. As you progress in your career, strive to be the best version of yourself. Believe in yourself, your talents, and the skills that brought you here today.
“With your hand in God’s hand and the foundation laid at the ESDA, you can reach for the stars and shine wherever you go.”
