Match report: Helpmekaar gets narrow win against Wynberg Boys High

Much drama ensued on day three of St Stithians SaintsFest when Wynberg Boys High School played against Helpmekaar Kollege. The boys from the Cape came up short in a heated affair, as Helpmekaar edged them out 18-17.
The match started with intensity as Wynberg took the early lead with right wing Chad Campbell scoring a try, while fly half Achmat Behardien scored the conversion taking the score to 7-0. After that, points raked up for Wynberg with Behardien scoring a penalty increasing the tally to 10-0. With that score it looked like Wynberg had all the winnings coming their way while our boys from Joburg were playing catch-up.
With the crowd cheering them on, Helpmekaar got a second wind with flanker Zaiden Krige putting their team on the board to make it 10-5, however fly half Wian Storm missed the conversion with two minutes left in the first half.
The second half started with Helpmekaar suddenly switching gears and putting their peddle to the metal with hooker Gustav Grotius evening the scoreline to 10-10, but again missing a conversion to try and take the lead for the first time.
That miss was detrimental to Helpmekaar in their efforts to add to their tally and Wynberg led again with a try from scrumhalf Morne Noble. Behardien did not miss this time and took the score to 17-10.
With 15 minutes to go in the second half, Grotius did not give up for his side as he scored his second try of the day to make it 17-15, with no points added from the conversion.
With only two minutes remaining, both teams gave their all, one wanted to keep the lead while the other wanted to regain their lead.
Helpmekaar definitely had a saving grace in the form of Kean Butler scoring a penalty, and taking the lead by the narrowest of margins.
