Local community celebrates 108th birthday of beloved elder with heartfelt ceremony

Kwa-Thema – Voilet Molefe celebrated her 108th birthday on April 8, and the St Matthews Methodist Church with the help of Tshipi-Noto Funeral Home joined in commemorating this momentous milestone.
Reverend Vuyani Ncokazi said the church is blessed to have Gogo Voilet among them.
“We all wish to reach the age. But I don’t think that we will, with the kind of food we eat,” he joked.
Although Gogo Violet is hard of hearing, she is still able to walk comfortably with the help of a walking stick.

The crew from Bellamore and Tshipi-Noto were keen to serve the attendees and the guest of honour.

Previously Gogo Violet said she was quite active in sports while she was at school. She believes that this helped her body to be healthy.
She sometimes wishes she could still do all the things she was able to when she was younger. The reverend read from Psalm 90 verse 12.
“If God can preserve Gogo’s life, he can certainly preserve us. Life is short. Anything after 70 years of life is a bonus. We should always be grateful to the days we are given to live,” said Ncokazi.
Gogo Violet lived in Payneville before moving to Kwa-Thema. She has lived in Kwa-Thema for so long she does not even remember how long ago she moved.

She had nine children and 24 grandchildren. Mbali Masondo, a leader in the church, said that she was grateful to be in the presence of Gogo Violet.
“Not many people will have the opportunity to celebrate with someone like her. We wish that God will bless her with many more years,” she said.
One of the organisers, Rachel Dubazane said that Gogo Violet did not expect the day’s celebration.
“We are so happy that some of her peers were able to celebrate with us today. I am happy to say that most of the doors that we knocked on to make this day possible were opened to us,” she said.
Representatives from Bellamore spoiled the guest of honour and attendees with massages.
