Birds FC triumphs at Astroplex, calls for support

Geluksdal – The Birds Football Club walked away victorious at the Astroplex Junior Football Festival in Benoni recently.
Established in 2017 by Dumisani Nkosi, the team has been growing from strength to strength. They beat Westrand Ballers 5-0 in the final.
“I am so proud of these boys and how much they have grown. This year, our U13s and U15s played in a major tournament. The U15s won bronze, while the U13s received silver.
“During the year, we were playing in the league in Tsakani, but we knew we needed to play beyond our hometown to touch up on our skills,” explained Mpumelelo Mjoli, the team’s coach.

That is when he and Nkosi signed the boys up for the six-a-side competition.
“Our U9s played seven games, drawing one, and two matches resulted in walk-overs. The rest of the games, we were scoring like crazy,” he added.
The team’s top scorer managed to find the net 12 times during the competition. Mjoli is inviting prospective players to join the team. He believes being part of the club keeps the boys disciplined and off the streets.
“We also need financial assistance because our players are wearing oversized kits. Some players do not have proper soccer boots. Any help would be appreciated,” he said.
