Tsakani CPF alerts residents to early-morning pipe thefts, urges vigilance

Tsakani – CPF chairperson Mncedisi Somyo has issued a warning to residents of Tsakani Ext 1 following a growing number of incidents involving the theft of water pipes and copper.

According to Somyo, the crimes are believed to take place in the early hours of the morning, with suspects targeting homes while residents are asleep.

“It is estimated that these incidents happen around 03:00, when people are most vulnerable,” he said.

Somyo explained that the suspects appear to focus on unoccupied houses or those with minimal activity, making it easier for them to commit the theft without being detected.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety at all times, especially if they hear suspicious sounds during the night.

“If you hear footsteps outside or the sound of running water, do not go outside to investigate.

“These criminals may be trying to lure residents out or find ways to gain access into the house,” he warned.

Somyo further cautioned that these incidents may not only be about theft, but could also put residents at risk of physical harm.

“These individuals may be armed or dangerous. It is not worth risking your life. Rather stay inside, secure your home and contact the relevant authorities,” he added.

Residents are encouraged to work together by reporting any suspicious behaviour and strengthening neighbourhood watch efforts to help curb the crime.

The CPF continues to call on the community to remain alert, secure their properties and avoid confronting suspects directly, as investigations into the incidents continue.
