Tsakani – Itumeleng Madisa founded Run This City, a runners club in Tsakani on February 15. It started as a simple idea to bring people together through running.
It has now grown into a powerful community movement with a clear purpose which is to create a structured, positive environment where people can grow physically, mentally and socially.
“I envisioned more than just a fitness group, but a space where discipline, unity and personal development could thrive.
“The club has evolved into a vibrant and inclusive community, and has gained members from different backgrounds and fitness levels.
“We come together, united by a shared goal of self-improvement and collective growth,” explained Madisa.
He emphasised that running is used as a tool to uplift individuals and strengthen the broader community.
Madisa mentioned that his vision has already translated into tangible impact, saying through regular training sessions and the popular Sunday Run Days, known as Ibandla, the club has created a consistent platform for engagement, motivation and connection.
“These gatherings go beyond physical exercise, fostering a strong sense of belonging among members.
“Run This City has also played a significant role in promoting healthier lifestyles, creating safe spaces for youth and adults, and instilling discipline and resilience in its members.

“Many participants have reported improved mental health, increased confidence and stronger social bonds as a result of their involvement,” he cited.
Through his guidance, the club has participated in the Ghubeka half-marathon in Germiston in March and took part in the BNAC marathon in Benoni April 19.
Guided by values such as discipline over excuses, consistency over perfection and unity over competition, Madisa has shaped a culture that prioritises growth and accountability.
“These principles are not only applied on the road but extend into everyday life,” he added.

Looking ahead, he aims to expand the movement beyond Tsakani, developing structured training programmes.
He aims to build partnerships and secure sponsorships to increase opportunities for members.
“The long-term goal is to establish Run This City as a leading community wellness initiative. The mission is to use running as a vehicle for positive change.
“I want to inspire growth within the community by proving that every great movement truly begins with a single step,” he concluded.
