12 arrested as EMPD Tsakane intensifies crime crackdown and bylaw enforcement

Tsakani – EMPD Tsakane Precinct officers, together with other precincts and units, conducted a strategic operation on April 10.

Twelve suspects, aged between 27 and 52, were nabbed for possession of illicit substances and for contravening the Immigration Act.

According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the operation was divided into two phases.

“There was a morning and afternoon shift where the focus was on crime prevention, bylaws, and traffic law enforcement.

“Officers received a tip-off about suspects dealing in suspected narcotics on Mpogo, Siyabonga, Dlamini, Ndabezitha and Rolihlahla streets in Tsakani.

“The information was investigated and the officers managed to arrest seven suspects found in possession of substances suspected to be narcotics, ranging from Mandrax, rock, CAT, crystal meth and heroin, mostly known as nyaope,” explained Dlamini.

All the suspected narcotics, with an estimated street value of R13 000, were booked in at the Tsakane Police Station.

“Thereafter, the officers proceeded to inspect traders on Malandela Street and the surroundings and found that most traders did not have any trading permits, while others were trading with expired trading permits.

“The traders were informed that they should apply for trading permits,” added Dlamini.
