
Kwa-Thema – The EMPD Kwa-Thema Precinct recently launched the Easter Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with other stakeholders.
The campaign resulted in the apprehension of 24 suspects between the ages of 23 and 56 years, and the impoundment of 14 unroadworthy motor vehicles, in the Kwa-Thema area on March 27.
A parade was held at the Kwa-Thema precinct, where the focus was on ensuring compliance among motorists.
The operation also aimed to prevent crime and promote road safety among residents and visitors to the City of Ekurhuleni.
Stakeholders began the operation on Vlakfontein Road at the Duduza rank, where vehicles transporting passengers for reward were inspected for compliance.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said several vehicles were impounded after failing to meet the required regulations
“Moreover, a white Toyota Fortuner was stopped at Springs and Thema roads with five male occupants including the driver.
“Upon searching the motor vehicle, officers discovered copper which they could not account for.
“The suspects were immediately arrested and the copper was booked in along with the vehicle used in the commission of a crime,” said Dlamini.

On Mduduzi Street, a 37-year-old man was arrested for dealing in narcotics, and was found with 300 small brown wraps of substances suspected to be narcotics (nyaope), with an estimated street value of R9 000 and cash amounting to R310.
Thereafter, five supermarkets were closed due to non-compliance and goods were confiscated.
“Furthermore, 11 undocumented males were arrested around the Kwa-Thema area for not having any form of identification and charged for contravention of the Immigration Act.
“Two males were arrested on different occasion for driving under the influence of intoxicating substances in the Kwa-Thema area, and four more wanted suspects were arrested for various cases,” he added.
