Bana Thabang Safety Heaven Feeding Scheme uplifts 300 beneficiaries with food, fitness and care

Kwa-Thema – A newly registered NPO, Bana Thabang Safety Heaven Feeding Scheme, is making a meaningful impact by promoting healthy living and supporting vulnerable members of the community through feeding programmes and small initiatives.
Founded by Carol Leriba (64), the organisation has already reached approximately 300 beneficiaries, including 50 home-based individuals who require additional care and attention.
According to organisation administrator Sibongile Sibiya, the team is committed to ensuring that home-based beneficiaries are not left behind.
“We visit them regularly to assist where needed. We check up on them twice a week,” she explained.
Sibiya added that the organisation’s long-term goal is to expand its services by introducing caregivers who can closely monitor beneficiaries’ well-being.
“Our aim is to advance, have caregivers and ensure that they have taken their medication as prescribed,” she said.
In addition to providing meals, the organisation places strong emphasis on physical and social wellness. Beneficiaries gather every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to participate in a health awareness programme that includes light exercise sessions.
“Older people need to stay fit, occupied and interact with one another,” said Sibiya.
“We make sure that they walk, exercise and remain active.”

Local fitness trainer Moeketsi Moagi, popularly known as “Spark,” supports the initiative by leading exercise sessions. However, he highlighted the need for additional resources to sustain and grow the programme.
“We need sponsorship to ensure that these activities continue long-term,” he said.
“Many participants come to the gym without proper shoes, uniforms or other basic necessities.”
The organisation is calling on the community to lend a helping hand, whether through financial contributions or donations of essential items.
Sibiya concluded by encouraging individuals and businesses to get involved:“We welcome all donations and support. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
