Ballers FC pulled off a stellar performance against Jealous Down (JD) FC with a 2-0 win at KwaThema Stadium on March 21 in the Hollywood Bet regional league.
Despite the cloudy weather, fans came in numbers to support their teams. Moagi Maleka from Ballers scored the opening goal for the game. The first half ended with Ballers in the lead.
At the beginning of the second half, Ballers were awarded a penalty taken by Bongani Vilakazi, who missed it. Ballers were more determined than JD, and Ntokozo Radebe seized the opportunity and scored the second goal for his team.
Jealous Down was awarded a penalty after a Ballers player received a red card. JD’s Sabenkosi Mchunu was unable to score and was saved by Baller’s goalkeeper, Tebogo Dhlamini.

Speaking to African Reporter after the game, Baller’s coach, Morena Mafunda, said the win was important, as the team had been securing draws in recent games.
He expressed that he is happy with his defence, which did not allow the JD’s players to concede a goal, resulting in a clean sheet.
“Currently, it is our struggle as a team to maintain clean sheets and this is the first of many wins in the league and hopefully the players can keep the momentum,” said Mafunda.
JD’s captain, Siphiwe Mokoena, shared that, as a team, they could not create chances for themselves, as Ballers dominated them from the beginning of the game.

He said that Ballers’ dominance affected them because it did not give them a chance to concede a goal.
“When they scored the first goal, as a team we tried our best to go hard for them and in the second half, we thought we would get a goal from the penalty.”
“Going into the next game, we think we should focus on our strikers because it will help us get a win,” noted Mokoena.
JD will look to redeem themselves as they play East Athletic Club (ERA) at the Tsakani Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and Ballers hope to keep their winning streak alive as they go head-to-head with Elspark United Academy at the Tsakani Stadium at 15:00.
