Empowered Women NPO hosts International Women’s Day event at Springs Mall

The Empowered Women NPO from Kwatsaduza hosted its inaugural International Women’s Day celebration at Springs Mall on March 8, under the theme ‘Dots of Strength’. The celebration was attended by various women from Kwatsaduza and was hosted by the organisation’s founder, Gugulethu Msimanga.
Speaking to the Springs Advertiser at the celebration, she said it was inspired by the organisation’s growth over the years and by women coming together to share their dots of wisdom.
She also said that from the event, she wanted the women to know that their dreams are valid and to always dream big.
“It is important for organisations to celebrate women when they can because women go through a lot in their daily lives, so to have such celebrations is for women to come together and revive themselves in a safe space.”
“It is also about letting the community know that women are here to stay despite the number of GBV cases and for the community to come together and protect the women,” said Msimanga.

Msimanga explained that her organisation helps women in various communities that lack self-empowerment and self-confidence and creates a platform where they can feel no judgement.
One of the attendees, Charity Selwane, told the publication that she is happy the celebration was aimed at empowering women and creating a space where they can feel free with other women.
She said that the celebration was also about reminding women where they came from and helping them heal their wounds.
“International Women’s Day is one of the important days where women celebrate themselves and remember their place in society. I am where I am because of such initiatives that remind me of my power as a woman,” said Selwane.
She concluded by saying that if a woman feels discouraged and unsupported, she must go out and surround herself with other women and they will help her with self-growth.
