Two arrested after man allegedly stabbed to death in argument over R20 shoe sale at Duduza Rank

Kwa-Thema – A man was allegedly stabbed by another man known to him following an argument at the corner of Majola and Vlakfontein roads at Duduza Rank in Kwa-Thema on March 9.
According to eyewitness Bongani Mahlangu, the dispute allegedly began after the suspect asked the victim to sell a pair of shoes on his behalf. The agreement was that the victim would sell the shoes and return the money to the suspect.
Mahlangu claimed that the suspect expected R40 from the sale. However, the victim was only able to sell the shoes for R20.
“When they met, the victim handed the suspect R20, which seemed to anger him,” Mahlangu explained.
He added that the suspect then crossed to the other side of the road, returned with a knife and allegedly stabbed the victim on the left side of his chest, the neck and the hip. The motive for the attack is believed to be related to the dispute over the money from the shoe sale.

“We are all hustlers on this corner and this incident has scared all of us. If we cannot work well at one spot, it is not safe. We all fear each other now. I could not sleep yesterday because I was traumatised,” he expressed with a heavy heart.
Mahlangu tearfully explained that the victim was a kind and loving individual who was very respectful. He expressed that witnessing such an event has left him traumatised, saying they need someone who will serve as a mediator when they work.

Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the complainant, a metro police officer, was performing his normal duties at about 11:30 when he heard a commotion at the Duduza Taxi Rank.

According to Sekgobela, the officer responded to the disturbance and found a man lying on the street bleeding.
“The officer alleged that he attended to the noise and found the male victim bleeding on the street. He asked what had happened and was told that the victim had been stabbed by one of the suspects, who had been given a knife by another man,” explained Sekgobela.
It is further alleged that the incident occurred after the suspects demanded money from the victim, who was carrying recycling material at the time. The metro police officer reportedly called an ambulance, but the victim, whose age is unknown, was declared dead at the scene.
Two men, aged 25 and 27, were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
