Michael Mount wins the 2026 St John’s College basketball tournament



Michael Mount High School is the 2026 St John’s College basketball tournament champion.

On a court surrounded by supportive families, friends, and high schools from across the country, Michael Mount and Northwood High School battled it out in a highly intense game, resulting in a 68-55 score.Michael Mount’s U19 basketball captain Luca Amersder said he was elated with the win. “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been putting in the hard and tough work as a team, which paid off.”

Northwood’s U19 coach Kent Van der Yacht said that although his team didn’t win, he remained proud of them. “As a team, we’ve had obstacles we had to overcome. Unfortunately, we couldn’t overcome a current one, where one of our players broke his arm and is in the hospital, which resulted in our team being one player short.”

Michael Mount’s coach Igor lunnemann said the team hasn’t won the tournament in 9 years. “This win is huge. The preparation began last year, so the win is a nod to the hard work we’ve put in.”
St John’s College’s deputy head Peter Wright thanked sponsors for a successful basketball tournament, commending all the basketball players who took part, as well as those who won prizes and were recognised for their hard work on the court.
