Langaville – On Friday night, a man was fatally shot in Langaville, and community members allege that Kwa-Thema SAPS officers were responsible.Sabelo Shabalala, from KZN, had only been in Kwatsaduza for two weeks and was looking for a job when shot.“Sabelo was sitting with another guy at one of the handout spots at the Duduza Rank. They saw people running, and there was chaos. They also started running towards Ext 7, where they live,” explained Kamohelo Shabalala, the Sector 2 CPF chairperson.Shabalala said the two stopped running when they saw uniformed police in the crowd.“As they continued walking, police vans approached, and then everyone started running again. This is when they heard gunshots. Sabelo tried to jump over a wall, and that is when he was shot,” explained Shabalala.Sabelo’s friend told other residents that Sabelo was injured.

“They went back with other community members and found him. The community demanded answers from the police at the scene, but they were pushed back,” added Shabalala.More police officers and an ambulance were called to the scene.“The family was even prevented from seeing him, and confirm his identity,” said Shabalala. The crowd continued to demand answers, and Shabalala alleged that the police beat people.“Thirteen people were arrested and transported to the Tsakane Police Station,” he added. After a community meeting and CPF intervention, the 13 were released.“They were badly injured, and we advised them to lay complaints and open a case with the police,” he said. The local police have confirmed that the incident is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.“We want answers: Who shot him and why. We want justice for Sabelo,” Shabalala concluded.
