
The Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) branches will extend their operating hours from December 8 to 19 and from January 5 to 16.
This will make it easier for people to apply for and collect their enabling documents. The extended office hours will see branches stay open until 18:00 instead of 16:00.
Services offered during this time will be available at offices equipped to process Smart ID cards and passports.
The department advised the public to book application and collection appointments before visiting offices. People can do this through the DoHA Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS) on its website. Those without a booking may still visit offices as walk-ins.
Minister of Home Affairs Dr Leon Schreiber said the department is committed to providing accessible and people-centred services.

“With the extended hours ahead of and during the festive season, I encourage South Africans to use them to ensure their essential documents are up to date, including travel documents,” he said.
He added that the extended hours would let people get the documents they need to spend time with friends and family and prepare for the new year.
Schreiber launched the Travel Ready Campaign last month at the new Baywest Mall Home Affairs office in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
He applauded the commitment of members who will work longer hours to ensure South Africans can enjoy their festive season with friends and family.
“Citizens who have applied for Smart ID Cards and passports should take this opportunity to collect their documents. We now have dedicated counters for collections as we continue our journey towards delivering dignity for all,” said Schreiber.
