Kwa-Thema – The community of Kwa-Thema welcomed a historic visit from King Tikoe of the Kham Royal Kingdom, the king of the San nation, on December 1.
The visit was hosted at Thami’s Lifestyle, making it the first local restaurant to welcome the monarch.
King Tikoe’s visit was facilitated by Sanele Louw, a Kwa-Thema resident and the director of Alcosa Pty Ltd, which helps financially distressed businesses access funding and remain operational.
Louw invited the king to Kwa-Thema to plant seeds of opportunity and initiate long-term projects that will benefit residents.
The engagement marked the beginning of significant economic and developmental opportunities for residents, particularly in entrepreneurship.

The king announced a business empowerment initiative that will empower the community by supporting residents in starting and growing their own businesses during his visit.
“Containers stocked with locally manufactured day-to-day products, which include mealie meal, cooking oil, and sugar valued at approximately R140 000, will be provided to qualifying Kwa-Thema residents.
“These containers will serve as business hubs, offering entrepreneurs physical workspace and inventory to start trading and offering services,” explained resident Nthabiseng Mochesane.
Kham Royal has partnered with the Black Eco Foundation to provide business and life coaching to the beneficiaries.
“The objective is to teach entrepreneurs how to run a profitable enterprise, manage resources and expand their operations ethically and strategically.

The visit brought good news for Mochesane, who secured a partnership with the royal kingdom under the Black Eco Foundation.
“Our role will focus on mentoring entrepreneurs and assisting them with business management and personal development skills,” she added.
According to Mochesane, entrepreneurs linked to the Kham Royal Kingdom often face challenges in running their ventures, and the foundation will ensure they receive ongoing guidance to overcome these barriers.
The royal delegation expressed strong interest in partnering with various Kwa-Thema stakeholders and offering support for future community initiatives, cultural events and business development programmes.
