Police arrest armed suspect after foot chase

A Zimbabwean national was arrested in the early hours of the morning on July 10, after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He has been charged with contravening the Immigration Act and with possession of an unlicensed firearm. The Vispol unit, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel France Koma, was conducting patrols in the Springs CBD when officers noticed two suspicious men.
“When the police tried to stop them, both suspects fled. The police gave chase and apprehended one. He was searched and found in possession of a firearm,” said Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala.
The suspect was taken to the Springs SAPS for detention and will appear before the Springs Magistrate’s Court.
