Home Affairs extends operating hours

The Department of Home Affairs has extended its weekday operating hours from July 7 to 21. It will close at 18:00 instead of the usual 16:00 during this period.
This temporary change is to help learners apply for and collect Smart ID Cards and passports during the school holidays.
To improve efficiency, larger offices that process Smart ID Cards and passports have introduced dedicated collection counters, where space allows, to reduce waiting times and ease pressure on clients.
Clients are encouraged to book appointments for applications or collections through the Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS), accessible via the department’s website.
However, walk-ins will still be accommodated for those unable to book in advance. Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, urged clients to take advantage of this extended service:
“I encourage all clients who have applied for their ID documents and have been waiting for three weeks or more to seize this opportunity and visit their Home Affairs office to collect these critical documents at their convenience.”
