The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Tsakane Precinct officers, in conjunction with National Traffic Police officers, arrested 27 intoxicated male and female motorists on December 25.
The arrested individuals, aged between 30 and 56, were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officers conducted a random vehicle inspection at the corner of Tsakane Road and Modjadji Road on Christmas Day.
“Officers stopped several vehicles after detecting a strong odour of alcohol and slurred speech among drivers. Breathalyser tests showed that 27 motorists were over the legal limit,” explained City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
All the apprehended drivers were taken to the nearest healthcare centre to be processed by a registered nurse before being detained at the Tsakane police station.
The detainees are expected to appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon.
